About

Shannen

As you can see, I have been dabbling with poetry and writing for a large part of my life. Whether it is writing for remembrance or simply just to vent and forget, writing has always been a source of comfort and reflection for me. Upset? Write. Happy? Write! Angry? WRITEEE!

The idea of having a poetry blog came to me while I was bored to tears at home waiting for my chicken pox to go away completely. I thought it would be good to take out all my old poems (amazingly, I remember where I scribbled my poems at because they were all over the place), read through them and laugh at myself. And I thought it would be a good idea to have a one-stop place for me to look back from time to time, instead of having to search for all these papers and notebooks just to read these few poems.

So as you can expect to see, my works are rather inconsistent. Apart from certain grammatical mistakes that I have corrected since re-reading through them, most of them are largely unedited. But I find it amazing how while my writing style and form have changed considerably over the years, some of the themes and content that I write about remain more or less the same. About love, about loss, about life. These are themes so universal that anyone who has ever tried writing would have written about these. In short, I am no different from you who out of curiosity have decided to visit my humble abode.

I welcome comments of all kinds, telling me how to improve my writing, whether you like a certain poem or not. But most of all, I hope that you will be inspired to look through your own creations and realise how far you have come as an individual. It may seem like a pointless activity, but I think it is always good to remember our own history, our own past. And for all you know, there may be new insights upon reading old entries.

Thank you for your time and I wish you a pleasant read (:
